Rooted in love and care

Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium funding was introduced in 2011. The aim of this funding is to raise achievement for disadvantaged pupils such as those eligible for free school meals, looked after children and children from families with parents in the armed forces.

The national trend is that pupils who are eligible for free school meals have lower achievement than those who are not eligible. The Pupil Premium grant is to be used to help narrow this gap.

At Newton Primary School, we believe that all pupils should be supported to outstanding progress and achievement and be proud of themselves. We are committed to using the resources made available to us to help achieve the best outcomes for all learners.

This funding is used to support both individuals and groups of children both academically and with teaching and learning behaviours. Projects have included: individual and small group support in reading, writing and maths; swimming lessons; enrichment activities and day and residential visits, Booster and 1:1 tuition and providing experiences to improve literacy, mathematics, and wellbeing.

This extra funding has been seen to have a positive impact on the academic progress, behaviour and attitude to learning of the eligible children.

All schools are required to report on the amount of funding received and how this is being used.
