Newton Primary School

Rooted in love and care

Our school

Our School

Newton Primary School is situated midway between Cambridge and St Neots in the heart of the attractive Cambridgeshire village of Eltisley.

The present school was opened on this site in 1974 to replace the old school in Croxton and named in honour of the Newton family who owned the Croxton Estate.

The school serves six local villages:
Eltisley, Croxton, Toseland, Graveley, Papworth St Agnes, Yelling

Children from the other five villages are eligible to travel on the school bus.

When places are available we are delighted to welcome children from areas outside this catchment area.

Visitors to the school will find a welcoming atmosphere, friendly staff and hard working children.

We are always trying to improve the education we provide for the children in our care. In return we expect children to work hard and to behave well. Our common aim is to work towards respect, value, equality and achievement for all.

The school building was originally a semi open plan area but in 2004 and 2005 an exciting building and refurbishment programme brought about dramatic changes designed to improve teaching and learning opportunities for everyone.

We have a spacious, light and airy hall, which is used as a dining hall, for daily assemblies, Physical Education, school productions and as a community facility.

There are three separate classrooms and in the centre of the school is a large area shared between a fourth classroom and the school library. The library is well resourced and used by all the children.

The administrative offices and staff rooms are situated at the front of the building and the children have their own kitchen for lessons in food technology. The main school kitchen is adjacent to the new hall where meals are served each day.

At Newton, our children benefit from an enriched curriculum including a cross curricular approach to learning, Forest Schools and many visits throughout their time with us.

Our network has safe Internet access. Teaching areas all have networked Clevertouch screens. To support all areas of learning, our children have access to a bank of laptops and Ipads .

The school is situated in spacious well-maintained grounds providing extensive areas for play on both tarmac and grass. We have a netball court, climbing frames, a football pitch, quiet area and school garden area which we are developing. The tarmac area can be floodlit.

We also have the Bluebell Day Nursery as neighbours on the site.
