Newton Primary School

Rooted in love and care

Modern Foreign Languages

At Newton Primary School we have always taught Modern Foreign Languages in Key Stage Two.

Children have one thirty minute lesson per week, led by their Class Teacher, in which existing language is consolidated and then developed by introducing new vocabulary and phrases. Language is presented and practised in a variety of ways before children have the opportunity to try it out independently by taking part in a range of games, songs, role plays and eventually written activities. Children have the opportunity to practise all four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

We are keen to develop enthusiasm for language learning amongst our children and so aim to keep a fun element to the lessons.

Our chosen language is French and we La Jolie Ronde to support our learning and teaching.
